Craigslist Find: ’70 Mustang Fastback In Need Of Some Love

CL Find - 70 Fastback 01While the days of the great American muscle car may be long gone, the cars themselves are not. A quick glance through local listings and you’re presented with an abundance of steel-body classics of various makes, models, and conditions.

CL Find - 70 Fastback 02While the sea of restorations and potential-projects can seem to consist of nothing but lemons, careful inspection can reveal some serious gems. Depending on how much wrenching you and your wallet are in the mood for, this ’70 Mustang fastback on Craigslist is one of those gems.

The 1969-’70 Mustangs were the third redesign of the first generation, and saw the car gain a bit more heft. The body got roughly four inches longer, half an inch wider, and about 400 pounds heavier, giving it a significantly more aggressive look.

It seems as though the owner of this fastback was attempting to expound on that look with the fender flares and massive hood scoop. The car also has a roll cage and what appear to be aftermarket bucket seats – suggesting that the car may have been used (or had plans for use) as a track car. So while the body modifications may not suit everyone’s taste, the already-installed cage and seats mean that, potentially, it could be easy to get the car track-worthy.

Obviously, there’s potential in classic Mustangs and this example illustrates that.

The owner mentions that the car has the 351-inch, 5.8-liter V8, claiming that it’s either built to or capable of 500 horsepower. But judging by the cars condition, it’s safe to assume that it’s been dormant for a rather long time – meaning that the engine will need a rebuild.

From it’s coat of dirt to its patches of rust, this ‘Stang definitely needs some love. But from the looks of it, the car will love you right back if given the proper care. Despite it’s questionable body modifications and slightly weathered state, this fastback looks (from what we can see) like a generally solid car. And while the amount of work needed may not be entirely clear, what we do know is that this would make one hell of a restoration.
